World Spay Day 2012

World Spay Day is celebrated every year on February 28.  Here is a description of World Spay Day straight from the Humane Society website:
World Spay Day is presented by The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International in partnership with animal welfare organizations, veterinary professionals, businesses, and individuals worldwide to shine a spotlight on spay/neuter as a proven means of saving animals’ lives.

Of course, we wanted to be involved.  We chose to celebrate Spay Day on Tuesday, February 28, Wednesday, February 29, and Thursday, March 1.  Using grant money, we offered cat spays and neuters for $10 instead of the normal $25 and "BOGO" (buy one get one) for dogs.  That week of surgeries was a HUGE success for us.  We brought in animals that probably wouldn't have been in the clinic otherwise.

During that week, we spayed and neutered 54 cats and 87 dogs.  That is a total of 141 animals or an average of 47 animals per day!  We were busy all day each day doing what we do best and every minute of it was gratifying!  Then we slept very well that weekend!
