The Whole Stinkin' Litter--March 1, 2012

Two weeks ago one of our board members called the clinic to tell us about some puppies that needed our help.  An elderly woman living alone with her two dogs ended up with a litter of puppies.  Her dogs weren't fixed, but she'd never had any problems before.  Well, living on a fixed income with two dogs is one thing.  Living on a fixed income with six dogs and now we have a problem.

Because of her limited income, she was afraid to ask anyone for help with her dogs because she was afraid that someone would take them from her.  This wonderful board member told her about what we do and that we are here to help her keep her pets, not take them away.  He talked to her about how important it is to have these dogs spayed and neutered and how healthy it can be for them.  Unfortunately, the dog owner just didn't have the money to do anything for these dogs.  She barely has enough to feed them.  With a little brainstorming, we were able to get everyone fixed up.

We used four Spay it Forwards to spay and neuter the puppies.  One was donated by Rose Emford, one by Glenda Crotchett, and the other two anonymously.  We used a little bit of some People Saving Pets grant money to spay the mom, and this wonderful board member paid for the rest out of his own pocket.  This includes vaccinations and deworming!

These six surgeries felt like a big success for us here at the clinic.  We were able to help the owner but we were also able to ensure that those four puppies would be fixed BEFORE going to new homes.  And the owner was so thankful to everyone for the help.  The non-profit world can be a tough place and sometimes just a heartfelt thank you can make all the difference.

Thank you Glenda and Rose for helping make these surgeries possible.  Thank you to our board of directors for your support.  And thank you to the owner of these animals for trusting that SPOT would help you do the right thing.
